SPRAT’s Board of Directors recently made a very difficult decision to place a temporary moratorium on the approval of all new Evaluators and Evaluator candidates. The only stipulation is for candidates who have already been notified by the Evaluations Committee that they are approved to continue with the process. Those candidates may continue with the process based on the current requirements.
This decision was made with the sole purpose of ensuring and maintaining the integrity of the SPRAT certification program. The Board hopes that this moratorium will be lifted in early 2012, and the following steps are being taken to move this along as quickly as possible.
- The Certification Requirements Subcommittee has proposed changes to the Evaluator Qualifications outlined in SPRAT’s Certification Requirements for Rope Access Work. These changes were sent to all voting members for consideration, and the deadline to respond with your comments is January 5, 2012. Your review of the proposed changes and returned ballot will help ensure that the published standard is the consensus of the entire Society.
- The Evaluations Committee has been directed to immediately review and revise the process for the approval of SPRAT Evaluators. This will be a primary goal of the committee, and they expect to submit a proposal to the Board of Directors at the Annual Conference in January. The Board will seek regular updates from the committee on their progress.
SPRAT Evaluators are the cornerstone of the certification program, and it is essential that they are experienced, qualified, and represent the Society well. The Board made this decision after careful consideration, and they are committed to pressing for this situation to be rectified as soon as possible.
